Pregnancy and Post-Partum

Having a baby brings about many changes…

A March 2020 message from one of our moms: “I wanted to shoot you this quick video of my recent discovery in abdominal approximation. I know it’s not about the “gap” but I was shocked to see this! Great tension, and when I curl up I’m only feeling 1-1/2 fingers of a gap. Crazy!” The video shows the control she has gained (while her toddler crawls on her). She is right…it’s not about the “gap” but the control (and confidence) she is able to create! She is doing great! If you want more control, ask us!!

June 2020, WE ARE WORKING WITH CLIENTS IN-PERSON at Embody, and ALSO PROVIDING TELEHEALTH VISITS. These visits are a wonderful option for all, but especially for new(er) moms! No need to work around naps, sitters, and nursing! Some questions we hear:

**”But don’t you need to look, um, down there? I mean, I’m leaking!!” You’re right, telehealth visits mean that we won’t be doing a full pelvic floor assessment with palpation, and we can’t use the Ultrasound to look at your movement and muscle patterns. We CAN get you started on the same things we would provide in an office visit, and can use those tools as needed in the future!

**”I had a C-section….don’t you need to feel my scar?” Even after C-section (and BTW, ALL moms, but especially after C-sections!! benefit from smart PTs to help them get moving!) we can see how your tissues are moving, and can begin to teach you the same tools we would provide in the office, including scar mobilization techniques.

*** “I think I have a diastasis!!!” You might, but again, we are able to watch how you are moving, breathing, and engaging your canister, and can begin to teach you new ways to move and bring the tissues together!

We want to provide you with the BEST care to help you meet your needs and goals, whether in-person or via Telehealth. Let us know what is best for you! If you have qeustions and would like to schedule a FREE 20 minute consult to discuss your concerns and learn more, please us the link at the bottom of the page

Pregnancy and Post-Partum Physical Therapy

What is on your “Mom to Be” and “New Mom”  wish list?

To be as prepared as possible for labor and delivery? To be ready to work with your body and baby as a team during the birth journey? And to have tools that your partner or birth assitance can help you with during the labor process? PTs are not typically with you during L&D, but we CAN provide you tools, breath, and ways to optimize your birth, no matter if you plan a non-medicated, medicated, or planned C-section delivery.

Is your wish to  feel balanced, strong, and healthy? To enjoy time with your new baby and family without leakage, pain, or wondering if you are doing too much? To feel confident in your changing body?

Being told “You have had a baby…that’s normal” is not an adequate answer! Susan and Rebecca are Women’s Health Physiotherapy Specialists. We have answers and solutions to help you as you prepare for childbirth, and  recover, restore and “re-fine”after the baby is born.

We believe that all women benefit from PT during pregnancy and after birth to help them as they navigate the changes in their body, and to help prepare for birth, reconnect in the early days, and to strengthen and regain in the “4th Trimester” and beyond!

Pregnancy, Labor, and Post-baby Recovery Tips(AKA, Prepare, and Pee, Poop, and Pelvic Floor Postpartum) Workshop will be July 9, 7-9 PM and live streamed. Let us know if you have questions!

Some of the questions and concerns you might have during and after pregnancy, and that we have answers for:

  •  DRA (diastasis), Pelvic floor issues including scar and pain.
  •  Bladder leakage or frequency and urge changes, constipation  and bowel concerns.
  •  SI , Back and neck pain.
  •  Strength and recoordination of Core and Pelvic Floor.
